Post 10

The last post: Chile's bicentennial year.

Introducction.

In this post, I’ll write what are my views about Chile's bicentennial year. Today Chile celebrates its 200th birthday like an independent republic. On my opinion this is a political celebration, but it’s not a national celebration like some people think. So I’ll continue to explain the difference that I see between a political celebration and a national celebration. For this I’ll considerate some historical aspect and some cultural aspect, because the Chile’s history doesn’t begin in 1810.

Body.
The native people, who lived in the territory called “Chili” before 1810, practiced a tradition that still is used today. This tradition is a part of Chilean people’s identity. In fact, the typical Chilean people are persons of mixed race. Mapuches and Spanish blood are in our veins. All the people who share the same culture are a nation. The Chilean nation not has only 200 years old. Then Chile's bicentennial year is not a national celebration.

In September 18th 1810 was instituted the first Chilean government. Before this day, only Spanish people are the government. In this important date the political name “Chile’s kingdom” was replaced for the political name “Chile’s republic”. Then Chile's bicentennial year is a political celebration. But the real independence was in 1817 afterwards Chacabuco’s battle. Then the real celebration should be in 2017.

Conclusion.
But I don’t think this anniversary means an important thing for all the Chilean people. Through all the life of our country has been draw and directed by the oligarchy. The people don’t have a real influence in political decisions. Then Chile's bicentennial year is not an interesting celebration for everybody.
